Eastern Michigan University is located in the town of Ypsilanti, Michigan and boasts a student population of nearly 23,000 undergraduate and graduate students.  Established in 1849, Eastern Michigan University was first a normal school before evolving into a more comprehensive university.

The Eagle mascot of Eastern Michigan University has been controversial since its creation in 1991.  Previous to the Eagle, the school's mascot of a Huron had been around for decades.  However, the Huron mascot was deemed derogartory to the nearby Huron Indian tribe, and the Eagle was introduced instead.  Today, many alumni still view the Eagle as a watered-down symbol of political correctness and bitter feelings remain.  The school colors have always been green and white, however.

Eastern Michigan University Eagles football games are played in the Rynearson Stadium which holds 30,000 people.  The stadium is named for a long-time, winning football coach Elton J. Rynearson, Sr who coached the Eastern Michigan University Eagles football team for 26 seasons.
