Brandon Thermilus was born in Flower Mound, Texas on August 2, 1987.

Brandon Thermilus attended Marcus High School and during his senior year he set a school football record with 251 yards rushed in one game. Brandon Thermilus averaged 5.5 yards per rush and scored 11 touchdowns. Despite being injured most of his senior year, Brandon Thermilus was named Texas Class 5A All-District selection.

In 2006, Brandon Thermilus became a redshirted freshman on the Buffalo Bulls roster. In the next Buffalo Bulls football season, Brandon Thermilus appeared in all 12 games as a 5'9" 224 lbs reserve running back. Brandon Thermilus was ranked third out of the Buffalo Bulls football players in rushing with 85 yards on 23 carries. Brandon Thermilus also made three touchdowns and eight receptions for 65 yards during the Buffalo Bulls football season. Brandon Thermilus scored the game winning touchdown in overtime against Kent State at the University of Buffalo Stadium.
