Ray Norell was raised in Monroe, Connecticut and attended Masuk High School. On the Masuk football team, Ray Norell was a first-team All-State selection and helped his team to the state finals. For his senior year, Ray Norell opted to play for Milford Academy and is now one of 2 Milford Academy graduates on the Buffalo Bulls roster.

In 2005, Ray Norell started off as a true freshman with the Buffalo Bulls and played in 3 games with one start. In 2006, Ray Norell started all 12 games at left tackle and left guard.
