Robert Yealu graduated in 2004 from Cedar Grove High School in Cedar Grove, New Jersey. At Cedar Grove, Robert Yealu was an All-County, All-Conference and All-State football winner. He also lettered in basketball for 4 seasons and was a high jumping all-star on the track and field team.

In 2004, Robert Yealu redshirted his freshman season. In 2005, Robert Yealu appeared in 4 games for the Buffalo Bulls but recorded no statistics.
